Your poem or song can be dramatic, serious, hopeful or humorous, as long as it calls attention to how we can all live more planet-friendly lives. Below you’ll find twelve examples of the kinds of kid-written poems and songs we’re looking for.
If you’re one of the first 100 kids or young adults 6-18 who submits a poem or song, our heroic tree-planting partner, Trees for the Future, will plant 10 trees in your honor somewhere on the planet where they are needed most. And you’ll get a digital Tree Certificate honoring your contribution to children, animals and future generations.

Kid-Written Letters from the Home Planet
1. OVEN’S ON
Our air and water are full of pollution
Humans are the only solution
We need energy that’s renewable
Doing anything less is inexcusable
2. SEE THE LIGHT
Surely you can see the light
With forest fires burning bright
is scorched from the heating
All life forms will take a beating
Tornados, floods and hurricanes too
Climate change means goodbye you!
3. OCEAN PLASTIC AIN’T FANTASTIC
Plastic bottles wash ashore
The oceans cannot take much more
Ride the waves where they are found
But they are not a dumping ground
Ocean plastic ain’t fantastic!
4. HOME COOKING
It seems to me, the birds aren’t flying
The heat is on, instead they’re frying
It’s all happened ‘cause you weren’t looking
So how do you like your home…COOKING!
5. WATER, WATER EVERYWHERE
Water, water, everywhere
So polluted, and you don’t care
Floods and droughts should make you think
Millions won’t have water to drink
6. FRESH AIR
Sorry to have to break the news.
But Mother Nature’s got the blues
Her skies are filled with dirty air
Her ozone layer needs repair
So, start using energy that’s renewable
To do any less is inexcusable
Together we can clear the air
And save the planet we all share.
7. FINAL HOUR
You’re so busy cutting down the trees
Your pesticides are killing all the bees
‘til everything that makes life flower
Now hangs in its final hour
8. PLANT MORE TREES
What have you done
There’s poison in the breeze
I’m begging you, begging you
Please, plant more trees!
9. TURN DOWN THE HEAT
Scorching, burning, oven’s on
Earth’s on fire, dusk ‘til dawn
If humans can’t turn down the heat
Climate change will spell defeat
10. MOVE TO MARS
If fossil fuels propel your cars
You’d better plan a move to Mars
Wind. Electric. Or catch the sun
Saves the planet and everyone
Only one hope for world and nation
Turn conversation into conservation
11. FATHER TIME
Birds not flying, species dying
You’ve given up without really trying
Please check out now and leave the room
Father Time ran out too soon
12. Don’t Turn Your Back
Scorching, burning, oven’s on
Planet’s cooking all day long
Mammals dying, birds are frying
Earth so sad you can hear it crying
Don’t turn your back
It’ll be too late
Us kids will suffer
A terrible fate
